Sewing Update!

The dress is on hold, as I don't have a 14in cream zip, so that'll have to wait till the weekend.

So far I think it's turned out pretty good. It's interesting to see how my sewing has improved since I last made this pattern, it's a lot neater for a start.

As the dress is paused for now I've started on a pair of pin stripe trousers, using this pattern.

I'm so excited about these trousers, I've been looking for a high waisted trouser pattern for ages and these look lovely.

New Dress! - In Progress

There's been a lot about an upsurge in making your own clothes in the press recently (though I'm not sure Rosie Millard's latest excuse to spend money counts). There's a good article in the Guardian today with tips on taking up clothes making.

I was inspired by a trip to Primark on Friday and a £14 sundress made from very cheap cotton at which point I thought I could probably do a better job for less money, so hit the fabric store instead for £6.83 worth of butterfly print cotton. I've actually being doing this kind of a lot.

Plus I have three whole days off so plenty of sewing time.

Pattern (it's the middle dress), meet fabric.

I was also very good and gave my sewing machine a really good clean.

Top part of the dress, it has a really cute top stitched edge, and gathers.

I'm going to finish it tommorrow (hopefully, I think I may be short a zip, planning is not a stong point.) as it's just attaching it to the skirt piece.

Time for sewing!

I have holiday coming up! Yay!

I have a week off from Thursday and I'm going to make myself another pair of trousers (and some skirts, lots of skirts).
